PROJECT DETAILS: Created for a college class. The requirement for this class was to create a website that could pull royalty-free text information from various books available online. After a search through the books, I found a section on hummingbirds and decided to base my web site around them.
I created this logo for Ember Gardens--an imagined garden that specializes in field trips which teach elementary students about how to take care of nature. One of the big draws for Ember Gardens is their hummingbirds who frequent the flowers. Ember Gardens teaches children and adults how to plant a garden that will attract and feed hummingbirds local to Texas.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS: The challenge with this logo was getting something that translated as a public garden. Since I wanted the focus to include hummingbirds, I also needed to create a design that would make sense to include the birds into. After I had drawn out my hummingbird, I sketched many different ideas (slide 2) and then selected the top five most liked sketches for prototyping (slide 3). Then I played with fonts to get the best idea of how to promote the name of the garden inclusive with the concept of hummingbirds (slide 4).
My final design was well-received by my peers and professor. The colors were selected to reflect flowers that hummingbirds will drink from (red, thin-fluted flowers are their favorites), and the hummingbird itself was also selected as a minor logo that would be seen in the footer of the web site (slide 1). Both designs are scalable vector files and look crisp and vibrant online and in print.
SKILLS/PROGRAMS USED: Entire logo, including the flower petals, hummingbird, and text completed in Adobe Illustrator.
