PROJECT DETAILS: Client work. The Trellis House Properties now owns the inn and studios directly next door and needed a whole new website that mimicked the charm and elegance of The Trellis House for this new property--The Blue Shutters Inn and Studios. As I was working for them on their social media pages and updating their current website for The Trellis House at the time, the owners asked if I could come up with something that may work for the new property. I was thrilled when they accepted my full proposal to tackle this build!
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:The biggest hurdle for me personally was to design a website that would work for the hotel industry and also have a space for a future eCommerce shop. The website would be image-heavy and had to be easy to navigate on mobile, tablet and desktop. It also needed to function seamlessly with the booking engine so that they would have close to no down time between room bookings and the new website design going live.
I worked closely with the owners of The Trellis House Properties and had the entire website up and running within one month. After this time we met again to work on adding the Gift Shop--Bentley's General Store--to the website from which anyone could make a purchase. The new website is one that elevates the style of The Blue Shutters Inn and Studios and allows guests to fully envision their stay within Ogunquit, Maine. The owners were thrilled and the final design is one I am proud of.
SKILLS/PROGRAMS USED: This website was created using WordPress and VW Hotel Pro as the theme. I added a child CSS style to adjust some of the internal pages. Images were scaled to make them load faster as this is an image-heavy website. Plugins were used for popup messages and tracking clicks, slideshows for the room images, threading MailChimp signups through the website and setting up the woocommerce/eCommerce gift shop.
