PROJECT DETAILS: Created for a college course project. Simply Charming was a self-challenge to create a fully responsive website with a dark color palette style guide. The theme of charm bracelets was chosen by myself and approved by my professor. The website needed to be completely functional, allowing users to sign up and log in with ease. Please note: Purchasing and a viewable cart are not options with this website at this time.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS: My past projects always had a colorful or minimal color scheme and I wanted to challenge myself to build a website that best utilized a dark color scheme. I chose black, pinks, and white to start and then added subtle pattens and feminine touches to make the website stand out and not look like a blackhole. My theme for this site was charm bracelets, and I pulled inspiration from the darker velvet boards that jewelry can be displayed on within stores--making the jewels pop and pulling the eye toward the smaller details and away from the display case that holds the pieces.
Programming languages learned with this build included Ajax and JSON. Getting them to be fully functional did take some trial and error, but overall I was able to figure them out and get them working. I even emailed my professor to ask about adding a few things to my website that were not going to be covered in class--like a way for users to log out, or change their information--then implemented this additional code. This website was added to my professors' teaching portfolio with my permission.
SKILLS/PROGRAMS USED: The site was built using PHP and Bootstrap 4 code. It utilizes Ajax, JSON, and a mySQL database for the registration and login page, as well as the About page individual links, and the navigation menus (which change upon log in). All of this was hand-coded on Adobe Dreamweaver.
