PROJECT DETAILS: Created for my Senior Research and Senior Project courses, Planning Frenzy is a community-driven, information resource for those who love planners and staying organized. Planning Frenzy is a fully functional website, so users can do anything and everything (minus completing purchases through the Shop link) featured on the site.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS: Planning Frenzy was my first WordPress project, chosen solely for the purpose of teaching myself WordPress so I could gain a better understanding of why it is one of the largest platforms for websites being designed today. I went from knowing nothing about WordPress to being able to understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, as well as gaining a better knowledge of themes, plugins, widgets, and the inner workings of creating a website using WordPress as a backbone.
Planning Frenzy took six (6) weeks of planning and another six (6) weeks in development, for a completed site design in about twelve (12) weeks. I utilized a theme made specifically for a yoga/fitness store, and heavily altered it to work within my theme of planners and staying organized. The website went through both an alpha and a beta usability test, and all feedback received during these tests was taken into account to create a very strong and robust final design. I received high marks for this entire project and was praised by my professors for the amount of research and programming that went into this project overall.
SKILLS/PROGRAMS USED: The site was created using WordPress, and altering some of the PHP and HTML files, as well as creating a child CSS file to ensure all aspects of Planning Frenzy stayed within my created style guide. I used Adobe Dreamworks as my "notepad" to write all additional code. All images, copy, and the logo of Planning Frenzy are copyright © Jeannette Chambliss. The base theme used for my site is from VWThemes.com.
